Message from Kathleen - Voting Closes 5:30pm 9 October 2008

HI all,

We had planned to have our poster session for project on Tuesday afternoon Oct 28.

Unfortunately, School of Education are using the airport lounge at that time and I can't find an alternative place to hold it. So, I am looking at the possibility that we hold it on
either Wednesday 29 Oct 2.30-4.30pm or Friday 31 Oct 1.30-3.30pm

Would you PLEASE ask your team (forward this email to your PM) what day would be best. I realise that some people may have invited clients to attend and I am sorry
for the muckup. If necessary, we can hold one or two teams only in T203C on the Tuesday afternoon from 3.30-4.30pm if a client has already committed to attending.

Thanks,
Kathleen

Scripting is complete UPDATE**

UPDATE**

Only left to do now is the objectives when selecting the scenario; otherwise the coding has been put to bed!

:D

______________________________

Hey guys an update on the scripting

Once Joel shares the script in the Defib (yes I can't believe I missed that it wasn't shared when I checked everything a couple of weeks ago), Then I can put the script I've made into the actual correct object.

Then all that remains is a couple of Patient conversations (for scenario's 4-6)
And those test says for the objects that require multiple user's to agree. I'm gonna clean those up to make them useful and not totally confusing as they are now

I'm also gonna make Says from the scenario selector; So that when a scenario is selected that scenario's objects will be sayed llSay(0,"This scenario's objectives are: blah blah and blah").

After those few things I'm practically done. I should be able to get those done on Sunday night. But I will post back here when they are all done to let everyone know.

Peace Out

(Can't believe how close it is now! :D)

User doc - video status

I've just completed capturing the user doc footage.
I've emailed an outline of the footage captured - let me know if I'm missing something.

As part of the user doc (dylan) we will need to outline the 3 stage process for accessing the simulation:
1. Creating an account
2. Obtaining access (request access)
3. Accessing the siumaltion

I've created a access request form and have created some screen caps for the admin user doc. Have a look at these and let me know if there should be any additions.
Dylan I have left the doc fairly un-formatted as i'm not sure how you are going to do these but i reccomend numbering the points and arrows.

That's A Wrap!

Chaddy and I have completed the recording of all of the cutscenes, with extra thanks to Matt for helping us out.

The acting was especially well done, although the same could not be said for the framerates in the videos. But I still have complete faith that the videos will get the point across.

Both Chaddy and I will tackle the editing stages next week, and aim to have them fully completed by the end of the lecture break.

I will have to put all these videos past our coding master Ben, to ensure that they are consistent with the simulations.

Peace Out

Update on the Completion of the scripting ***UPDATE***

UPDATE

Currently I have scenario's 1 -> 4 almost completely finished (barring some of the patient talking and connections for the rest of the module) i have the drugs for scenario 5 almost finished (most are done); And then I just have to do scenario 6 (which is just clicking on the paddles and then clicking the met team button - plus ecg monitor).

I managed to find some heartbeat sounds for the stethoscope in scenario 3 - try them out to see for yourself. Also managed to find a suitable alarm sound for the probe coming loose in scenario 2.

I reckon its really coming together well guys. Great job EVERYONE!!

I should be done in the next couple of days. (I'll keep you guys posted)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys

Just letting everyone know where I'm at so you don't think I've disappeared (of the planet!)

I won't have much time to script over this weekend coz I've gotta play Uncle In-Law (to my Nephew-In-Law's 1st birthday). But I'll try and get some stuff done on Sunday night.
Then I plan to get stuck in (and hopefully finished) Monday/Tuesday (22nd/23rd).

I'll make sure to Update this post (or make a new one) with any updates that are relevant for all to know.

Cheers

Happy Project doing break to all!

llCheers(0,"I can see LSL in my sleep...");

Updates

I have submitted a hard copy of the test plan to Charlynn and would like to congratulate matty for his excellent work on the test plan. I hope everyone has a relaxing and productive lecture break, and I look forward to seeing the final product come together. A lot of hard work has gone into this so it will be very gratifying for everyone when it is done and dusted.

Updates on the Scripting...

Hey all; Been doing some late night updates :S

This is whats been done:
  • Oxygen tank only functions (as it used to) in scenario 4; since that is when it is meant to be used
  • Therefore scenario 1 is totally complete, all the user needs to do is look at the patient, click on the patient to check him out; and finally turn the alarm off and move on (personal log and so on)
  • Scenario 2 is almost done; I have the IV stand and Mask moving into the correct positions since they need to be on the patient. All I need is to adapt the coughing (maybe a slightly different version of the coughing - more a asthmatic hard to breathe sound as per the case study) and the blue face/patient talking stuff
  • scenario 4 is done basically (since its the oxygen tank one
  • scenario 3 need to do the bleeding from the mouth stuff/ more talking patient stuff
  • scenario 5/6 don't have that much to do besides different talking from the patient and turning the other bits of equipment on
So yeah its definitely taking on a more complete feel since the scenario's are coming(ish) together.

Also I was able to fix that problem of the chest not responding to a change in scenario (dam timer events) by using a trick in the scripting. I've tested the chest heaps of times (and since its the way the arm shaking works as well - and they always have responded correctly :D) and its responded correctly each time :D. I also reworked the monitor thing so that it responds correctly to the scenarios (and fits with the rest of the scripts so far).
Also as I eluded to above when you left click the different objects they will say something (in scenario's 1,2,4 at the moment). When you click the patient's head he cycles through 2 quotes in scenario 1 at the moment (will expand for further scenarios) - I did this for the parts where the case study says "the patient is anxious and talkative and so on".
Also left clicking the chest says "chest is pumping fast" - this feature means that the user can appear to examine the different parts of the patient both visually, audibly, and by text prompt

Cheers

From your underground scripter... :D

Changes

Last meeting we discussed the scenario selector -
According to our requirements -
FR008 Simulation control Once a user starts a simulation only they have the rights to stop/restart it to ensure data integrity. Users can come in at any time but they do not control when it is stopped.

This could work i.e. store in a list - but i think having the 4 agree on a simulation (same as object) would be a better move.

Does anyone have a change control doc (joel??? from last year?). If so email me it and i'll put it up to Blake.

Issue with hovering text

Had someone play with the simulation for the first time today - problem was that they couldn't do ANYTHING as they kept try to click the text above the boards instead of the board which controls the script. If we think about web pages it's what people are conditioned to do.

So only thought i had was to explicitly say 'click the board' or something. Otherwise we may need to re-think this design.

Luke.

Hand over

Had a bit of a break through with the handovers - i've figured out how to share textures within an object and auto copy them to a folder in the persons inventory with the name of the folder being the name of the object storing it -(makes sense in world). SO i'm in the process of scanning the handover docs and uploading them. I may need to get some lindens from someone but hopefully should be good.

Objects

Hey Ben can you go in and share all your objects , we need to move some for the cut scenes but cant cuase there not shared.

Cheers

All Objects in and ready to go!

Hey guys,

Me and Joel have uploaded all objects and the new patient, we've textured and positioned everything, so its all ready to go :)

Reminder about the Code Bank

Hey Guys,

I was just updating the code bank with all the latest scripts that I've been working on
I was wondering if any of Luke's or anyone else has scripts that they haven't yet backed up on the code bank.
We must be good IT Pro's with our risk management and backup procedures

Cheers

Updates to the Clinic Module UPDATED**

Hey guys just an update on what I've done so far:

  • I have integrated the Scenario Selector (that's now in the snazzy board - with a nice texture) with the oxygen tank and patient (breathing/coughing)
  • So if you select scenario 1 then that starts this scenario
  • Resetting the scenario disables those scripts - at the moment I don't think that it is worth moving the disabled objects out of the way (I think we should just set a message that says something like "this object is not needed here" if they click a disabled object)
  • Also I have made a simple display that states what scenario is currently selected - its just in a box at the moment - I wasn't sure if chaddy has an object for this or if we have a screen or whatever BUT the scripts done for it anyway
Things for me to do next
  • Integrate the breathing animation into scenario 1 - DONE however I was unable to make the breathing animation go super fast for the struggling to breathe - otherwise the listen event wasn't triggered when the oxygen tank was turned on. At the moment fast breathing is 0.5seconds and slow breathing 1second; I will try to see how fast I can make it another day - still it looks cool now
  • Try to integrate the shaking arms into scenario 1 - at the moment I can script an object that is not linked to shake but I've tried about 3 different ways to do it inside a linked object and none of them do anything. The lsl wiki says that you have to use something else (which I've tried and it didn't work), but I'll keep trying - otherwise we can just unlink the arms and do it that way...
  • Add the real handovers into the handover dispencer - I could also integrate the handover dispencer into the scenario selector so that the users can only receive the handover for the scenario they have currently selected
  • Also are we wanting the scenario selector to be selected by all users in the group before it starts - may prevent people from accidentally changing scenarios mid way through - or just being jerks (So yeah I will do this...)
Luke (or for that matter anyone): any more suggestions other than those I have stated above?

Everyone sign off below - with any comments you may have....

Cheers

Urgent team meeting

We need a team meeting to discuss the SDD we submitted.
Therefore we will be having a meeting on Monday.
Either 1:30 or 4:30 - let me know which time suits you.
(Joel - realise you'll be in Melb so Chaddy can report to you.)

Test Cases

Hey Guys,

Im just working on the test cases document and i had a little idea of something that might work well. Im currently filling up the test cases based on the functional requirements so they are basically all system test cases that represent the working flow of the system, so i thought i would create a sepertate document that contains all the unit test cases which are a lot more specific test such as the individual operations of each piece of equipment.

It will be a little easier to understand the tests if they are in seperate documents i think.

What do you think of that idea? Let me know!!

Drop land

Has everyone finished with our old land – need everyone to sign off – once this is done we will drop it. (there are some objects in there which aren’t in our new land but not sure what they are – joel and chaddy please look)

Detector & Object locaiton

Was thinking the location of the objects should be on the other side of the room - as the nurses will be around the patient and therefore will make it easier to code the detector.
Let me know what you all think.

New Land Update

Joel and Chaddy – Have all objects in ASAP (Wednesday by the latest) – please arrange a time at you own discretion and place here on blog

Joel and Ben to work together moving Building (Friday at the latest)– I can lend a hand if need be. Please arrange a time and post on blog here

Trouble with the Move

Since we have objects that have been made by multiple people and some of them aren't shared, I am unable to copy them all in one selection.

Maybe since Luke has more permission than the rest of us he can still copy it all; and then rez it at the new location

EDIT:

Also I have just noticed that certain small prims in the Objects created by the special program; when they are moved not all prims were selected and so there are little prims where they shouldn't be and Objects that now don't look complete.

I suggest that we will have to re build them from your program at the new location

Please comment at the bottom with any suggestions or comments

We need to get on to this ASAP so I can get coding

Correct APA Referencing for Report Document.

Hey Guy's,

Just a quick note to remind you all to correctly reference your reports in full APA, meaning in-text references and proper URL citing with the retrieval dates etc. This is not only to make sure you don't get busted for accidental plagiarism, but also to keep all the documents in similar formatting for then they are merged.

The two reports I have recieved have no in-text referencing... I take it the information was not "pulled" out of some random orifice, so can it please be sent to me again with some lovely in-text referencing! :)
(Dylan Grant, pp 666) - ETC

Thank you,

Your loving Documentation Man.

If you need assistance for APA go here.

So... for example - this has worked for me in all Business subjects with no issues, when paraphrasing in a paragraph, which is common for reports.

The likes of the example below works for 1 or 2 references, but is ideally used at the end as above, as it is neater and too many immediate in-text references are messy and distracting.

Breathing Animation

After playing with animation scripts for weeks and pullling my hair out I've come up with the most simple and idiot proof way to animate the breating - no video this time becuase it is so simple - just go into second life and check it out. They are the two objects (supposed to be shaped like a stomach) in the right corner.

Detection Teleportaion i.e. Max number of people in a room

I've finished the teleportaion script. Check out the vid i'm sending and go online and have a looky
These links will help alot when it comes to implimenting them -
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSensor
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlSensor

(i'll put them in the link bank if anyone wants them)

I'm off for a week - we have a meeting on the 14th of July 4:00pm - 5:00pm in T127 - i'm expecting alot of quesitons/ideas and quite a bit of work done in the next 2 weeks from everyone. Especially from that Rhay Finkler. If you have to contact me do so on my phone as I wont have the internet.

Oxy baby

I’ve got the oxygen tank script to work based on the number of people in a room.
When clicked the oxygen tank counts the number of people in the room – it then detects who clicked it and adds them to an arraylist – ensuring they don’t already exists in this array so one person can’t click the on button 4 times to turn it on. Each person in the room clicks the ‘on’ tank and is added to the array. Once the array size is equal to the amount of people in the room the tank is turned on. At the moment there is text with it but I’ll remove that.

Also I’ve almost completed the transportation/room max size script. I’ll finish that tomorrow (please don’t edit) and upload it some time next week. I need to talk to Joel/Chaddy about the layout of the simulation. Prob in out meeting on the 14th July – I’ll post the details of that meeting tomorrow.

Luke.

On Off Switches

I’ve been working on a script which will detect each avatar in the room and will then only turn something on once each avatar has clicked the on button. The issue is I have no problem detecting who is is the room but I can’t detect an individual avatar when they have clicked the on object.

If anyone (ben or matty especially) can find a scipt which will detects who the avatar is who clicks an object then we can create a script which detects each avatar in the room and adds them to a list(array) then as each one clicks the object their name is added to another array (after checking if they exist are not). Once the size of this array is equal to the number of avatars in the room the object will then turn on. It’s quite an affective way of doing it but wont work unless I can find something that will detect the avatar who clicks on an object.

Other wise I’ll have to do a similar thing but will only work once the object has been clicked 4 times – essentially meaning that any one person could click the on button 4 times to turn it on.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts.

Creating Objects in Max

This is really only relevant to Chaddy n I, but ill post it here coz its much easier.

When creating objects in Max, especially small equipment, don't assign a size value greater than 3, try to work in decimals. The unit is in metres, so objects will appear huge if it has a large size value.

I learned this the hard way, after spending hours creating the IV pump and aligning everything, I began to import it into SL before swot vac, once it was built the damn thing took up the entire room, and shot through the second-story roof. Hopefully no prims got stuck beneath the ground.

Also ive noticed that any objects flipped with the Mirror tool dont keep that orientation when transferred into SL.

And, I have also noticed an issue with objects when you move the Pivot Point.

Basically, if you want to "mirror" and object you'll just have to use the Rotate tool.

Project 2 Begins

Status from previos actions:

Dylan will check how SL runs on different computer around the Uni next week
I want a formal doc outlining the findings by the end of the lecture break

Set up a google Doc, for the research document next semester, so that all people are able to add to it
Luke Created the google doc and is ready to go.
BUT After talking with Charlynn each member is to research what other people/organisations are doing with Second Life. By the end of the week each team member is to have topic (preferably relating to the area they are working on in the project). This is to be posted on the blog and to be approved by myself/ben (I wont have an internet connection fri-tuesday) to avoid double ups. By the end of the lecture break each team member is to have their research completed and emailed to me – this will be checked and emailed to Dylan for collating. (The research doc is due 3rd week in)

SDD – due week 3 this will pretty much be adapting the SADD – so we have a clearer idea of how the deign will work too. See the email i sent for the SDD plan. If everyone can have there parts completed by the end of the lecture break we can put it together in the first week back.

Test Plan
Matt to start the test plan – refer to previous plans and chaddy said he had some docs he could give you – coupled with the user requirements/matrix shouldn’t be to hard. Due week 9 but prob wise to get it started now.

Documentation plan
Because this will be quite extensive I’m going to nominate matt to be Dylan’s assistant for the documentation. By the end of the lecture break I would like to have completed the documentation plan and a prototype for both the end user and admin in the form of a:
Text based doc
HTML/video based (i.e. I’m thinking a website on a CD -> user can click the links/tabs which launches the video tutorial

Dylan – do you need a copy of adobe captivate from me?????

Object design.
Joel and chaddy to continue work on objects.
HIGH PRIORITY - By the end of the lecture break (or ASAP) – can you two have the design of the entire scenario finished – i.e. the building and simple square prims where the real objects will go. This way we can continue scripting even without the real objects there.

Prototype –
HIGH PRIORITY
- Luke and Ben to complete the bottom level prototype to include all basic functionality which can be adapted to all scenarios. i.e. on offs with more than 1 person, visuals, max of 4 teleports etc.

make a code/object bank on google docs
Luke created Code bank and updated – matty was to update with previously created scripts ASAP
Object bank created – Joel and chaddy to update ASAP
Backup of SL objects to dedicated avatar – Luke was to create user – I have and have emailed the credentials to you all

Youtube – I have created a you tube page for our cut scenes (and will also double up with online user doc). I want myself and Ben to finish the design and mock cut scene functionality by the end of the break.

If you have any questions regarding this please post them here.
Hope everyone has had a good rest and trust all your exams went well. We have already started week 2 of project 2 (ben has got the new timesheets ready so please update these so I don’t have to ask your status on the blog) so we should really start to fire on all cylinders now and hope we can get off to a successful start; as we saw from last semester – a good start really did help.
We will begin to have our weekly meetings again starting from the 14th July.

Research Doc

Please post what you will be researching here (if you get stuck finding something this may help - http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Institutions_and_Organizations_in_SL#UNIVERSITIES.2C_COLLEGES_.26_SCHOOLS)

Status

Since we didn't have a meeting this morning can everyone leave a comment outlining their current status for the past fortnight, cheers.

Reset Button

I managed to get a reset button to work today with the current prototype

I was having trouble last time with the dialogue box of the oxygen tank interfering with the reset. I found another LSL wiki site (added it to the link bank for you guys to check out ~ see down the bottom of the link bank) that explained the llListen() function and the listen event handler a bit better.

Now both the oxygen tank and the patient catch the reset called from the reset button correctly and basically they reset when you click on the reset box.

I imagine that we will have a separate reset for each scenario (and therefore use a separate reset channel for each -- so that the scripts in different scenarios aren't reset accidentally from different levels

Obviously each new object that is added to the scenario needs to have the catch for the reset button's call else that particular object wont reset.

Try it out and you will see that it resets both the oxygen tank to off and patient to default coughing state.

I have also updated the code bank with the new versions of the scripts.

WARNING when copy pasting into the code bank make sure you double click the cell that you are pasting into first. Otherwise it does this really weird thing where each new line in what you have copied goes into a new row, you end up with a whole lot of new rows with one line of code in each. So remember double click the cell then paste in the code

Semester 1 Conclusion

Last but not least – I was thinking we should get together out of uni some time to celebrate the completion of semester one – drinks, pub meal, Crown casino or what ever. Let me know your thoughts here.

Progress

I’ll arrange a meeting for some time in the holidays for a progress report from everyone regarding their work undertaken/to be undertaken – so if you could post your availabilities here ASAP it would be much appreciated.

Presentaion

I have arranged for a copy of the presentation to be given to Blake and I’ll let you know about the feedback. We can now get stuck right into the project so I’m expecting there to be some work done this week.

Unlinking Objects

Using an almost unheard of search engine called Google I have uncovered how to unlink objects in Second Life.

Simply hit Ctrl, Shift, L.

Shock! Horror!

Also, im looking into other ways of creating objects in Second Life, there's not much out there but the search will push on.

Update on Prototype

Hey guys, Ive been doing more scripting on the prototype this mourning,

Firstly I need Chaddy to give me permission to use the scripts on his patient, then I can just copy the script across from the sphere prim (which is my subbed patient at the moment).

This is what I was able to do:
  • The patient starts in the default state of looking blue, and dumdumdum,
  • Coughing, yes that's right I was able to upload a wav of myself coughing, and then loop that sound while the patient is in the default state
  • You are able to click on the oxygen tank which then allows you to turn it on
  • Once the oxygen tank is turned on, then the patient enters a state of breathing, the coughing loop stops and the patient turns to a remotely neutral colour (I'll need to be more accurate with the skin colour for the final product - the RGB values are in a percentage from 0 to 1 which is annoying)
  • Once the oxygen tank is on, you are able to turn it off again - this then sends the patient blue and coughing his guts up once again... (OOO the humanity)
So hopefully my cound loop drives you all insane enough to turn the oxygen tank on for the poor patient.

I tried to get some sort of Reset button scripted, but had trouble with it interfering with the way that the dialogue box on the oxygen works (and so I will sort out that problem another day). I'm happy with the way that the scripts work at the moment coz that actually WORK!

If you haven't seen the prototype for a while then log on to SL, and check it out.

NOTE: I'm off to the footy tonight (GO PIES) and so if Chaddy doesn't share the scripts on the patient before I'm off tonight all you have to do is copy the one on the sphere (above the patients head) and paste it into the patients head (literally!)

Thanks guys

Happy Prototyping :D

Land & Video

Hey guys – just got the streaming video to work in SL – woopee.

BUT (and this is a big but) you can only have 1 steaming video per ‘package’.
I’m proposing we use both Land spaces and sub – divide. (similar to image but not necessarily exactly the same). This way we can duplicate the basic prims and have the settings for each scenario on each space. The user can then teleport to each scenario (level) when they wish and it will help when it comes to the scripting.

We’ll discuss this further in this weeks Thursday meeting – but for now our main focus is still the SADD and the Prototype.

Presentation Layer Update

Ive researched some of the major medical equipment in the case study and have divided them up evenly.

Presentation Layer:
User Interface - Joel
Building Layout - Chaddy
Prototype Sketches - Chaddy
Elaborated Storyboards - Joel and Chaddy

Medical Equipment Sketches -
Joel
- IV pump on stand with burette
- Hudson oxygen mask
- Oxygen tank on stand
- Oxygen saturation monitor
- Crash trolley
- Defeibrilator

Chaddy
- Nasal prongs
- ECG (Electrocardiogram)
- Patient buzzer board
- Heart monitor
- IV on stand (Intravenous)
- Venturi mask
- Drug trolley

Refer to the case study or use google to get an understanding on what they look like.

Prototype **UPDATE**

Was also thinking for the prototype - if we have time - it would be good to imbed a video too; as this feature will be predominant in the module.

---- EDIT by Ben----

Was an extremely productive night in Second Life tonight. Well done boys.

We've got a room coming along with Joel's bed in prominent position.

Me (ben) and Luke sorted out how to have popup options from left clicking an object as well as getting objects to react to each others changes (which is how to link everything together basically).

If you go into our land you can try out those scripts by left clicking the box in the air (inside the room), if you then chose to make the box go up, then the nearby sphere will say "I'm Listening".

The Prototype is coming along very nicely (and remember the SADD stuff for this week boys!)
