Project 2 Begins

Status from previos actions:

Dylan will check how SL runs on different computer around the Uni next week
I want a formal doc outlining the findings by the end of the lecture break

Set up a google Doc, for the research document next semester, so that all people are able to add to it
Luke Created the google doc and is ready to go.
BUT After talking with Charlynn each member is to research what other people/organisations are doing with Second Life. By the end of the week each team member is to have topic (preferably relating to the area they are working on in the project). This is to be posted on the blog and to be approved by myself/ben (I wont have an internet connection fri-tuesday) to avoid double ups. By the end of the lecture break each team member is to have their research completed and emailed to me – this will be checked and emailed to Dylan for collating. (The research doc is due 3rd week in)

SDD – due week 3 this will pretty much be adapting the SADD – so we have a clearer idea of how the deign will work too. See the email i sent for the SDD plan. If everyone can have there parts completed by the end of the lecture break we can put it together in the first week back.

Test Plan
Matt to start the test plan – refer to previous plans and chaddy said he had some docs he could give you – coupled with the user requirements/matrix shouldn’t be to hard. Due week 9 but prob wise to get it started now.

Documentation plan
Because this will be quite extensive I’m going to nominate matt to be Dylan’s assistant for the documentation. By the end of the lecture break I would like to have completed the documentation plan and a prototype for both the end user and admin in the form of a:
Text based doc
HTML/video based (i.e. I’m thinking a website on a CD -> user can click the links/tabs which launches the video tutorial

Dylan – do you need a copy of adobe captivate from me?????

Object design.
Joel and chaddy to continue work on objects.
HIGH PRIORITY - By the end of the lecture break (or ASAP) – can you two have the design of the entire scenario finished – i.e. the building and simple square prims where the real objects will go. This way we can continue scripting even without the real objects there.

Prototype –
HIGH PRIORITY
- Luke and Ben to complete the bottom level prototype to include all basic functionality which can be adapted to all scenarios. i.e. on offs with more than 1 person, visuals, max of 4 teleports etc.

make a code/object bank on google docs
Luke created Code bank and updated – matty was to update with previously created scripts ASAP
Object bank created – Joel and chaddy to update ASAP
Backup of SL objects to dedicated avatar – Luke was to create user – I have and have emailed the credentials to you all

Youtube – I have created a you tube page for our cut scenes (and will also double up with online user doc). I want myself and Ben to finish the design and mock cut scene functionality by the end of the break.

If you have any questions regarding this please post them here.
Hope everyone has had a good rest and trust all your exams went well. We have already started week 2 of project 2 (ben has got the new timesheets ready so please update these so I don’t have to ask your status on the blog) so we should really start to fire on all cylinders now and hope we can get off to a successful start; as we saw from last semester – a good start really did help.
We will begin to have our weekly meetings again starting from the 14th July.

Research Doc

Please post what you will be researching here (if you get stuck finding something this may help - http://www.simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Institutions_and_Organizations_in_SL#UNIVERSITIES.2C_COLLEGES_.26_SCHOOLS)

Status

Since we didn't have a meeting this morning can everyone leave a comment outlining their current status for the past fortnight, cheers.

Reset Button

I managed to get a reset button to work today with the current prototype

I was having trouble last time with the dialogue box of the oxygen tank interfering with the reset. I found another LSL wiki site (added it to the link bank for you guys to check out ~ see down the bottom of the link bank) that explained the llListen() function and the listen event handler a bit better.

Now both the oxygen tank and the patient catch the reset called from the reset button correctly and basically they reset when you click on the reset box.

I imagine that we will have a separate reset for each scenario (and therefore use a separate reset channel for each -- so that the scripts in different scenarios aren't reset accidentally from different levels

Obviously each new object that is added to the scenario needs to have the catch for the reset button's call else that particular object wont reset.

Try it out and you will see that it resets both the oxygen tank to off and patient to default coughing state.

I have also updated the code bank with the new versions of the scripts.

WARNING when copy pasting into the code bank make sure you double click the cell that you are pasting into first. Otherwise it does this really weird thing where each new line in what you have copied goes into a new row, you end up with a whole lot of new rows with one line of code in each. So remember double click the cell then paste in the code

Semester 1 Conclusion

Last but not least – I was thinking we should get together out of uni some time to celebrate the completion of semester one – drinks, pub meal, Crown casino or what ever. Let me know your thoughts here.

Progress

I’ll arrange a meeting for some time in the holidays for a progress report from everyone regarding their work undertaken/to be undertaken – so if you could post your availabilities here ASAP it would be much appreciated.

Presentaion

I have arranged for a copy of the presentation to be given to Blake and I’ll let you know about the feedback. We can now get stuck right into the project so I’m expecting there to be some work done this week.
